2007-02-06 - IER RFID inlays inside the Marks & Spencer’s «smart labels»

IER, the designer and manufacturer of RFID inlays, has been involved from the very outset in one of the most successful initiatives deployed by the U.K. retailer Marks & Spencer.

Since the first tests in 2003, IER has been selected by Marks & Spencer to design and supply the RFID inlays (antenna and chip assembly) that are integrated into the garment labels.

In early 2007, Marks & Spencer intends to extend the RFID tagging of 6 clothing departments from 42 to 120 of its 450 U.K. stores. By autumn 2007, the project will then be extended to a further 6 additional clothing departments.

For these project extensions, IER provides Paxar, the label converter, with all UHF inlays to cover Marks & Spencer’s projected needs in relation to RFID labels for textile goods.

Moreover, IER’s RFID UHF couplers are embedded in Intellident handheld readers to enable a quick and reliable reading of the RFID labels in the stores.

IER’s leading edge technology includes UHF inlays and readers specially designed for garment applications. It guarantees an excellent read rate for large quantities of labels with multiple readers in a store environment (in cases, on racks and on shelves).

With this solution M&S runs extremely precise inventories in around one hour, when previously it took several days. Ultimately, it enables accurate day to day reordering and improves customer satisfaction.

IER is a leading inlay manufacturer specialised in high volume HF and UHF smart labels. IER develops RFID solutions for logistic tracking applications (textiles, parcel and casing, as well as luggage), and also for mass transit ticketing and traceability of pets.
