Norwegian Air Shuttle AS – the low-cost airline based in Oslo, Norway – has chosen the next generation IER 918 CUSS kiosk to provide its passengers the benefits of self-check-in at 7 airports.

From the end of May, Norwegian offers self-check-in on the IER 918 kiosk to its passengers leaving Oslo Gardemoen. Oslo Gardemoen is the first airport to be equipped with 20 new Norwegian kiosks, which will grow to 23 in total. Passengers departing from Trondheim also are able to use the same solution where 6 kiosks have been deployed. Five other airports will also be equipped by the beginning of July including Stavanger (5), Bergen (7), Bodø (3), Tromsø (3) in Norway, as well as Stockholm in Sweden (5). The total order amounts to 53 kiosks with further potential growth throughout the Norwegian network.
The IER 918 is a new generation of Common Use Self-Service kiosk designed to meet the latest trends in passenger travel such as e-ticketing, 2D bar coded boarding passes, the ability to read e-passports and to check-in passengers with or without bags.
The IER 918 installed by Norwegian are equipped with a full page passport reader including a RF reader, a fingerprint scanning device, a 1D/2D barcode reader, a Wifi connection and a bag tag printer for self tagging and drop off.
Besides the hardware, the IER solution supplied to Norwegian also includes the IER CUSS middleware, the IER ALISS generic client application customized to Norwegian specifics, the proactive remote supervision of the total installed base 24/7 using the IER monitoring system, on site maintenance and workshop repair for 3 years.
For now, the Norwegian check-in application is connected to the Amadeus DCS only but will later be connected to the KLM Codeo DCS as well. Also planned for the near future is the deployment of the Norwegian application to other CUSS platforms, including the IBM kiosks at Copenhagen airport.
Coming soon after the deployment of 35 IER 918 at the San Francisco International Airport (spring 2007), this installation of 53 IER 918 kiosks in Scandinavia is extremely satisfying for IER. It is another confirmation that our CUSS solution is fully adapted to our customers needs and strengthens our leading position for the number of CUSS sites equipped worldwide.
