PRESS RELEASES2009-10-01 - IER deploys self-service check-in kiosks at San Jose International Airport, CAIER – the leading supplier of passenger and baggage processing solutions in the air transportation industry - has received an order from AirIT for 46 additional self-service check-in kiosks to be installed at the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport. Mineta San Jose International Airport, SJC, located in the heart of the Silicon Valley – California – has expanded the deployment of self-check-in kiosks available to passengers. After a first roll out of 15 IER self-service kiosks, IER received an additional order for 46 kiosks to be installed at SJC from AirIT, a leading integrator of information technology to the air transportation industry. The airport selected different kiosk configurations including desktop-mounted and stand-alone pedestal versions to offer maximum flexibility and ease of use for passengers. The kiosks are equipped with a swipe passport reader and a 2D barcode imager and will be available for use by passengers travelling on any airline serving San Jose. This supplementary deployment is in line with the airport’s comprehensive $1.3 billion terminal area modernization program approaching completion next year. The IER 918 is the latest generation of Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosk designed to meet the latest trends in passenger travel such as e-ticketing, 2D bar-coded boarding passes, and the ability to check in passengers with or without bags. Besides the hardware, the solution supplied to Mineta San Jose International Airport also includes the IER CUSS platform for each kiosk. IER is supporting the deployment of the application through project management and has provided training so that AirIT’s on-site maintenance team can respond to Level 1 service calls. Betros Wakim, President and CEO of AirIT said: “IER and AirIT have a close partnership that has resulted in the deployment of CUSS kiosks at SJC. Moving forward we are dedicated to offering a fully flexible environment for all the airlines at San Jose airport”. Bob Swensen, SJC Operations Manager coordinating the airport’s facility transitions commented: “IER has demonstrated close support to our airport and our airlines to enable CUSS to become a reality in San Jose. SJC is truly a common-use airport from counter to gate, and the expansion of the use of CUSS kiosks is a key part of our vision to create a very efficient airport benefiting passengers and partners alike.” “We are very pleased to be a trusted partner with San Jose and AirIT. These and other recent major deployments of IER’s new generation kiosks in the United States demonstrate our commitment to our customers and reinforce our position as a major kiosk supplier to airports and airlines in North America.” stated Hervé Muller, VP and General Manager of IER Inc. According to IATA, CUSS is in use at over 130 airports worldwide, demonstrating the maturity of this technology. As CUSS check-in undergoes an accelerated phase, IER continues to multiply kiosk deployments at airports all over the world. For many years, IER has been involved with IATA in creating the CUSS standard and has gained an extensive experience in this field resulting in a comprehensive range of solutions including hardware, middleware and customized self-service applications.
